From January 2015 to September 2016, the project “A Europe of Diasporas” was funded with the support of the European Union as a civil society project. We thank the European Union for having invested funding in this venture. As required by the European Commission, we publish here the list of events that have taken place under the project and information about the many participants that have been involved.

This phase of the project has now ended, but cooperation continues in the form of a pan-European network. Watch this space to find out about our future plans!

Event 1

Participation: The event involved 39 citizens, including:

5 participants from the city of Brussels (Belgium),

3 participants from the city of Sofia (Bulgaria)

1 participant from the city of Copenhagen (Denmark)

6 participants from the city of Paris (France)

2 participants from the city of Berlin (Germany)

6 participants from the city of Budapest (Hungary)

Location / Dates: The event took place in Paris, France, from  16/10/2015 to 18/10/2015
Short description:  The aim of the event was to initiate the project, establish a first core of members of the network, agree on the principles of cooperation, define the topics of our further collaboration and determine the other activities we would carry out under the project.

The event also involved a 3-hour conference with an attendance of about 50. All non-seminar participants in attendance were presumed to be residents of Budapest.

Location / Dates: The event took place in Budapest, Hungary from  16/10/2015 to 18/10/201

Short description:  Title: “Diasporas’ heritage and Remembrance”. The topic of the event was Remembrance and Heritage: what do we share? What should we do together?

The event also involved a larger 2-hour conference with an attendance of about 100. All non-seminar participants in attendance were presumed to be residents of Budapest.

Location / Dates: The event took place in Sofia, Bulgaria, from  15 to 17/01/2016
Short description:  The title of the seminar was “Education and Empowerment”. It aimed to explore the current situation from different angles, in order to exchange experience and seek solutions.

The event also involved a larger 2-hour conference with an attendance of about 100. All non-seminar participants in attendance were presumed to be residents of Sofia.

Location / Dates: The event took place in Brussels, Belgium on May 2, 2016
Short description:  The conference was simply entitled “A Europe of Diasporas”. It aimed to broaden the scope of the discussion beyond existing participants in the network to include policy-makers, opinion-makers and interest groups as well as other minority and diaspora groups.

Participation: The event involved 35 citizens, including:

Location / Dates: The event took place in Warsaw, Poland, from  23 to 25/09/2016

Short description: This was the concluding seminar of the project. It was an opportunity to establish the foundation of a durable network, to take stock of the results of the project and to assess its successes and failures.

The event also involved a larger 2-hour conference with an attendance of about 50. All non-seminar participants in attendance were presumed to be residents of Budapest.
